Gilmour holds 68th commencement
Gilmour hosted its 68th commencement exercises on May 28.
The school presented diplomas to 101 students who plan to attend such colleges as Cornell, the University of Michigan, Ohio State, the University of Notre Dame, California Polytechnic State University, Boston University and many other schools across the country.
The class earned a combined $12.6 million in scholarship dollars.
Students and guests were treated to a commencement address from Kristin Kirkpatrick, Class of ’94, manager of Wellness Nutrition Services at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute and best-selling author of “Skinny Liver: A Proven Program to Prevent and Reverse the New Silent Epidemic.”
Kirkpatrick is an experienced presenter and an award-winning dietician. She has appeared on local and national TV shows such as “The TODAY Show,” “NBC Nightly News” and “The Dr. Oz Show” and has contributed to national newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, TIME, Runners World, Oprah, Martha Stewart Living, Foot Network, Costco Connection, Self and Women’s Health. The Huffington Post named Kristin “one of 35 diet and nutrition experts you need to follow on Twitter.”
Nupur Goel of Solon, was named the class valedictorian and will begin the accelerated BS/MD program at Northeast Ohio Medical College in the fall. Michelle Moufawad of Pepper Pike, was named the class salutatorian and will study biology and Spanish at the University of Notre Dame.
Members of the Class of 2017 hail from four countries (the U.S., Canada, China and Switzerland), nine states (Colo., Ill., Ind., Ky., Mass., N.C., N.J., Ohio and Penn.) and 33 cities in Ohio. Seventy percent of the seniors completed more than their required 60 hours of service. Six student-athletes from the Class of 2017 have signed national letters of intent to play for Division I and Division II colleges in hockey, cross country, equestrian, basketball, football and tennis. Two members of the class competed on both the state champion girls soccer and girls basketball teams.
