The Lake County Elections Board on Aug. 16 certified candidates for the Nov. 7 general election.

Two candidates will not appear on the ballot because of insufficient signatures, Elections Board Director Jan Clair said.

Maria Cerja, candidate for the Painesville City Council ½/18 term, filed 56 signatures. She needed 50 to appear on the ballot, however only 45 were valid.

Fairport Harbor School Board candidate Alicia Sherwood filed 30 signatures. She needed 25 valid, but fell one short.

Clair also said that Thomas Elliot, candidate for Willoughby Hills City Council ½/18 term, withdrew his candidacy and does not wish to have his name appear on the Nov. 7 ballot.

The board also certified Rick Walker as a write-in candidate for Perry Village Council. The write-in deadline is Aug. 28.

Two Mentor Zoning issues also were added to the ballot:

• Proposed zoning amendment of 0.18 Acres from Old Village District (Residential) to Old Village District (Commercial) at 7461 Presley Ave.

• Proposed zoning amendment of 1.92 Acres from R-2 (Single Family Residential) to B-2 (General Business District) at 8040 Broadmoor Road

The board also discussed the Sept. 19 primary election for Wickliffe City Council Wards 1 and 3. The director, deputy director and office staff will conduct the election at the Wickliffe Community Senior Center and Mount Carmel Community Center. The board will convene in Mount Carmel at the close of polls (7:30 p.m.) to announce the unofficial results of the election.

The nonpartisan primary election will be held for the two wards because more than twice the number of candidates to be elected filed petitions. The top two votegetters in each ward will advance to the Nov. 7 general election.
