• The Kirtland football team had its most dominating performance of the season so far, posting a 60-0 win over Berkshire in a game in which the Hornets held the Badgers to negative-one yard of offense. Jake Neibecker continued his stellar breakout season with 115 yards rushing and a touchdown. Eight different Kirtland players scored in the game. With the win, Kirtland is now 5-0 (2-0 CVC Valley), while Berkshire falls to 1-4 (1-1). • Christoph Sontich threw for 154 yards and ran for 90 yards, but visiting Orange defeated Chagrin Falls, 30-22. Orange scored 24 unanswered points in the second quarter to take control of the game. Chagrin Falls made it a one-score game in the fourth on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Sontich to Mick Lawrence, but the comeback fell short. Chagrin Falls is now 1-4 (1-1 CVC), while Orange is 4-1 (2-0). • NDCL improved to 5-0 with a 44-7 win over visiting Cleveland Heights behind a 144-yard rushing night from defensive star Manni Malone. Malone scored a pair of touchdowns. That, along with a trio of Gabe Brkic field goals, sparked the Lions. • Christian Dibra ran for 123 yards and a score as visiting West Geauga defeated Harvey in Coach Brian Craemer’s return to Painesville, where he coached Harvey prior to taking the West Geauga job this offseason. Jax Shenkel ran for 124 yards and threw a touchdown for West Geauga (2-3, 2-0 CVC Chagrin). Devin Holbert threw for 193 yards and two scores for Harvey (1-4, 0-2). • Sammy Schuster threw for 73 yards, but Fairport lost to host Independence, 48-0. Mitch Yommer caught three passes for 45 yards for the Skippers (1-4, 0-2 CVC Valley). • Benedictine bounced back from a loss last week to Erie Cathedral Prep with a demonstrative win over Columbus Watterson. Nick Demchuk completed 23 of 30 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns for Benedictine (4-1). • Mogadore scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to give Gilmour its first loss of the season, 21-7. Gilmour (4-1) scored on its first offensive possession, but was held out of the end zone otherwise. • Matt Carney threw a pair of touchdowns, but Cardinal lost to Cuyahoga Heights, 55-35. Cardinal is now 1-4, while Cuyahoga Heights is 4-0.
