Hybrid, electric cars best for environment
The Trump administration is ignoring the consensus of nearly all professionals in environmental-related fields. Many Americans agree that climate change is not only real, but a real threat. Regardless of the growth and prosperity the Midwest once saw given its influence in the coal industry, we must move away from this costly, outdated, and dangerous form of energy.
Here in Lake County, we are no stranger to the effects of pollutants. During summer months, poor water quality signs can often be seen at entrances to Headlands Beach State Park, located within eyeshot of the Perry Nuclear Power Plant. The warnings advise swimmers to avoid “accidental ingestion” of the water.
With issues surrounding our air and water quality looming, it is important that a community as large as Mentor continues to lead the way in looking toward cleaner and more sustainable energy.
Mentor is home to auto dealerships that have been selling hybrid cars in recent years, and as a result we are now seeing an increase in cleaner car sales.
While these efficient and cost-effective vehicles have not caught on as quickly in more rural areas, it is important that cities like Mentor continue to pave the way for a cleaner future for our children.
The time for urgency is already here, communities are doing their part, and our senators should do theirs as well. Joey Wittman
