Crop comments: A lot of movement this week. But it’s early, so that’s to be expected . ... Gilmour retains No. 1 with ease. Magnificat and Hathaway Brown present interestin­g obstacles this week. ... Perry jumps up to No. 2 with wins over Beachwood and NDCL. The Pirates are playing well on both ends of the floor. ... Geneva makes a leap up to No. 3. Perry travels to Geneva on Jan. 13. Will either team lose before then? We won’t bank on it . ... North drops down to No. 4, but the Rangers looked dominating in a win over Brush on Dec. 11. ... Kenston is 4-1, and the Bombers look like they’ve put their 2016 struggles behind them. The WRC is stacked, but Kenston will very much be in the thick of the race . ... Mentor drops to No. 6, but don’t expect the Cardinals to keep struggling. Mentor lost to Strongsvil­le this week when it couldn’t get the offense going . ... Kirtland beat Laurel to increase its record to 5-0. Getting Katie McColliste­r back from an injury has made an already deep team that much more difficult to defend . ... NDCL moves into the Crop this week with its 4-1 record. Its only loss is a tight one to No. 2 Perry . ... Brush is 2-3 but just got sharpshoot­er Jenna Perry back. The Arcs will be a definite threat in the WRC . ... Chardon gets into the Crop this week. The Hilltopper­s are 2-3 but have played some tough teams so far. Beware of this tenacious team.
