Schools and library to teach tech to public

Mentor High School and public library team up for a day of tech sessions for folks of all ages.

Mentor Public Schools and Mentor Public Library are inviting the public to get connected to the resources and technology available in the community.

People of all ages can learn how to code, use a 3D printer or green screen, and get device advice for their computer, tablet or smartphone when they visit The Hub at Mentor High School from 3 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 24, according to a news release. The event includes: • Free access to The Hub’s makerspace from 3 to 6 p.m.

Mentor student volunteers will teach how to fabricate something with a 3D printer, edit a video with a green screen, and more. People can even bring their own T-shirts and learn how to screenprin­t them.

• Get tech assistance and advice from student volunteers and reference librarians from Mentor Public Library from 3 to 6 p.m. Find out how to stream music and videos, take online courses, and borrow eBooks, eAudiobook­s and digital versions of popular magazines for free with your library card.

• People approachin­g the age of 65 can get a free introducti­on to Medicare at 6 p.m. Laura Mutsko of Mutsko Insurance will explain how the Medicare works and can answer questions. • Children in third through eighth grades can learn about computer coding with Hour of Code at 7 p.m.

Kids can get a free introducti­on to computer science with no experience necessary.

All of these programs and services will be offered in Mentor High School’s renovated and revitalize­d library, now called The Hub, at 6477 Center St. in Mentor.

This special evening is open to all and free to attend.
