Ex-All Star pitcher Loaiza arrested on drug charges

Former All-Star pitcher Esteban Loaiza has been arrested on suspicion of traffickin­g drugs after packages containing a white powder believed to be cocaine were found at a home he rented in Southern California, officials said Monday.

The 46-year-old former Major League Baseball player was booked Friday on charges involving the possession, transport and sale of 44 pounds of suspected cocaine worth an estimated $500,000, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.

Loaiza played for numerous teams between 1995 and 2008, starting with the Pirates and concluding with his second stint with the White Sox. He had a 21-9 record with the White Sox in 2003 and started in the All-Star Game that year.

Loaiza was being held Monday for lack of $200,000 bail pending a court appearance on Wednesday.

Massaquoi, who starred at Georgia before he was drafted by Cleveland in the second round in 2009, revealed his prosthetic and details of his misfortune in a video posted Feb. 12 on The Players Tribune.

Massaquoi was riding ATVs with friends when he said he took a turn too sharply and crashed. The 31-year-old said it felt as if an explosion had gone off in his hand, and he was initially unaware of the severity of his injury.

Massaquoi, who spent four years with the Browns and has been out of football since.

KENNEDY OUT AT OLE MISS » Mississipp­i coach Andy Kennedy and the school are parting ways after 12 seasons.

Kennedy announced Monday his decision to step down as head coach, effective at the end of the season. The decision comes two days after Ole Miss (11-14, 4-8 SEC) lost at LSU to extend its losing streak to five.

Kennedy is the winningest coach at Ole Miss with 245 wins. This season he picked up his 100th SEC regular season win and is the only Ole Miss coach to reach that accomplish­ment.
