Lions Clubs sponsor GOOD Program for students

- Submitted

The Willoughby Evening Lions Club and the Willoughby Lions Club cosponsored the G.O.O.D. Program at Grant Elementary School on

May 14 and at Edison Elementary School on May 22.

G.O.O.D. stands for Going On Or Defeated. This was the 21st year that the Lions Clubs under the direction of District GovernorElect Lion Mike Tyler from The Willoughby Evening Lions Club has sponsored this program in the Willoughby Elementary Schools.

The students who receive the award are chosen by their 4th Grade teachers Established by Lion Ron Derry of Baltimore, Ohio, a former schoolteacher and coach, who was afflicted with blindness.

The concept is to recognize young people who are not necessarily the “straight-A” students or the top athletes. Those students receive plenty of attention. Instead, the GOOD Program shines the spotlight on students who work hard and exhibit good citizenship and good personal and study habits. Since its introduction in Ohio and adoption as a statewide project, it has also expanded into West Virginia and Kentucky. Benefits of the Program:

• Deserved recognition of hard-working but under appreciated students.

• Increased club involvement with school officials and teachers.

• Positive publicity through award ceremony and students wearing T-shirts. Following are the teachers and the students that were recognized. Grant Elementary School Ms. Wright/Ms. Vanek: Vanshi Patel and Logan Baker Mrs. Venson: Johnny Ilacqua and Ava Shearer

Mrs. Millsaps: Evan Boerner and Elizabeth Scott
