GoFundMe account launched for teenage girl killed in June 5 crash

- Staff report

A GoFundMe account has been started to help cover funeral expenses for the teenage girl struck and killed by a truck in Eastlake on June 5.

The online fundraising campaign in memory of Maddisan Chase, 17, was created June 6 by Amy and Billy Webb.

“Please help us raise money for the family to pay for her unexpected final farewell during this painful time,” an appeal on the GoFundMe page states.

The fundraising campaign, which has a stated goal of $8,500, had raised $7,275 as of noon June 8.

If the final amount raised exceeds funeral costs, all additional funds will go to Hospice of the Western Reserve, according to the GoFundMe account.

A funeral Mass for Maddisan, who was a student at Eastlake North High School, will be held at 10 a.m. June 12 at St. Justin Martyr Church, 35781 Stevens Blvd. in Eastlake. Calling hours will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. June 11 at Monreal Funeral Home, 35400 Curtis Blvd. in Eastlake.

Meanwhile, the Akron man charged in connection with Maddisan’s death awaits a June 12 preliminary hearing in Willoughby Municipal Court.

Eric Dean Jones, 26, has been charged with one count of first-degree felony aggravated vehicular homicide, one misdemeanor count of OVI and one misdemeanor count of failure to control.

At 1:45 p.m. June 5, Eastlake police responded to the scene of the crash on Vine Street near East 337th Street. A truck swerved off the road and struck a pedestrian, Police Chief Larry Reik said.

The victim, later identified as Maddisan, was transported to Lake Health’s West Medical Center in Willoughby. She was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
