Thank you for support

On Saturday, May 12, 2018, the National Association of Letter Carriers held their annual food drive in Madison.

Thank you to everyone who donated over 1,700 pounds of food to the Madison Food Center.

A special thanks to Cindy Lutz who coordinated the program again this year and to the Post Office employees and family members who volunteered their time to collect the donations throughout Madison.

We are very grateful for the exceptional help of the Madison Key Club and the volunteers of the Madison Food Center who sorted, weighed and shelved many of the donations. We are proud to be residents of such a generous community. With their support we will continue to strive to “stamp out hunger” in Madison Ricki Petersen Pat Cz-Stafford Chris Van Dusen Co-directors Madison Food Center

War reenactments are valuable

This Memorial Day, the Lake County Historical Center hosted its annual Civil War reenactment. It honored the sacrifices of both sides the North and South. Spectators were more than welcome to ask questions about and talk about how and why they took up arms against each other, and observe a battle reenactment.

It’s important to remember that both sides were, and are still Americans. Many knew each other or were relatives. But they had different beliefs.

It seems a pity you’re always going to have groups and organizations that will try and erase that history and try to say it didn’t happen by using threats of violence or lawsuits.

Thank goodness the center, and the reenactment community will not be intimidated from holding such events.
