Where is your favorite side in Top of the Crop?

Girls soccer

- — Chris Lillstrung

Chris Lillstrung checks in with this week’s boys and girls soccer Tops of the Crop. The Chagrin Falls boys and Kirtland girls remain at No. 1. That, along with this week’s area scoring leaders.

Watch list: Berkshire (5-0), Kenston (2-2-2), Wickliffe (5-1)

Crop comments: This perch doesn’t just belong to Kirtland (7-0), with a No. 1 standing in the Division III state coaches poll well deserved . ... Gilmour (3-1-1) served notice with a 1-0 win over Magnificat, continuing to deliver clean sheets vs. quality foes . ... If it wasn’t for Kirtland, Chagrin Falls (5-0-2) might be regarded as this area’s hottest side — the Tigers are rolling . ... A 3-1 loss at Bay isn’t all that bad for Lake Catholic (3-2), but the drop had to come because of Gilmour’s big win and Chagrin’s form . ... Madison (5-1) handled its lone business last week, pulling away from Brush, 4-0 . ... Kudos to NDCL (5-1) for bouncing back from the Walsh Jesuit rout to take care of Padua and Mentor . ... A competitive loss to Kirtland and a 3-0 victory over Kenston is enough for West Geauga (4-2-1) to bump up one spot . ... Mentor (3-41) drops a spot after losing to NDCL, 3-2, but should be a dangerous side come October. ... Mayfield (3-3-1) isn’t dropping for a 2-1 setback to Berea-Midpark, but other sides are knocking on the proverbial door . ... Hawken (1-4-1) is a classic better-than-its-record side, but positive results do have to come eventually.
