A Huron man has been arraigned in Lake County Common Pleas Court on aggravated vehicular homicide charges.
A Huron man has been arraigned in Lake County Common Pleas Court on aggravated vehicular homicide charges stemming from a Sept. 24, 2017, crash that killed his passenger.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, 60-year-old Robert McGann, of Huron (who was residing in Painesville at the time), was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling on Route 2 toward Route 44. As the vehicle exited Route 2 east, the SUV traveled off the left side of the offramp briefly before re-entering the ramp and crossing the right shoulder of the ramp.
The lone passenger, Michael P. Corrigan, 57, of Painesville, was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned and was thrown about 30 to 35 feet from where the vehicle ended up.
Both men involved in the crash were transported to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township. McGann was subsequently taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. The Sheriff’s Office said Corrigan was pronounced dead at TriPoint.
McGann was secretly indicted by the Lake County Grand Jury in April. An arraignment hearing was held in the common pleas court Sept. 14.
He is facing two counts of second-degree felony aggravated vehicular homicide, two misdemeanor OVI counts and one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance or a listed metabolite of a controlled substance.
A pre-trial hearing date has been set for Sept. 24 in front of Lake County Common Pleas Court Judge Vincent A. Culotta. A trial date has been set for Nov. 13.
McGann is currently being held in Lake County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
