Storms accompanied by high winds in the afternoon and evening of Oct. 20 brought down a number of utility lines and trees in parts of Lake County.

Mentor police reported at about 5:45 p.m. on its Twitter feed:

“We have major damage across the city from the weather event. Please use caution when on the roads or in your yard, multiple reports of wires and trees down.”

At about 7 p.m., a Mentor police and fire dispatcher said the Fire Department was working on more than 40 calls around the city. The nature of the calls included downed electric wires and trees, some of which had fallen on houses; as well as some wires being on fire.

The dispatcher said a list of storm-related emergency calls was being shared with Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co., so the utility would have a clear idea of repairs and power restoration needed in the city.

A news release was being prepared to give more details on the extent of storm damage, the dispatcher said.

Painesville Fire Department responded to 26 reports of wires and trees down during the late afternoon and evening of Oct. 20, Capt. Mark Jonovich said. The bulk of those calls began coming in at around 4:45 p.m. and didn’t slow down until about 6 p.m. he said.

Jonovich said there were no injuries reported, but several trees fell onto homes and caused damage.

Concord Township Fire Department sustained “pretty moderate” storm damage that included downed trees and wires, as well as a utility pole that snapped in the 8500 block of Route 86, said Lt. Tyrone Bilal.

Most of the storm damage in the township occurred between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., Bilal said, adding that no injuries from the storm damage were reported.
