Supporting Lakeland is a good investment
I’m an alumnus of Lakeland Community College, but I achieved my business management certificate after earning a four-year degree, to gain some business knowledge that would help me re-enter the job market.
It’s a testament to this flexible, user-friendly educational resource that I was able to complete my certificate even though my child’s cancer interrupted my progress for two years.
For half a century, Lakeland Community College has been a vital provider of quality education and job training for Lake Countians and a supporter of local business needs.
But this aging campus requires facility, equipment and technology updates to fully prepare students for today’s more technical applied engineering and manufacturing jobs. It also needs campus safety and access improvements for differently abled students.
I believe that Lakeland leadership will be good stewards of the funds from this temporary bond issue. The newly updated Lakeland Health Technologies building, built with the 2015 bond issue and other funds, will finish on time and within budget, so I believe this project will also.
Every dollar invested in Lakeland Community College comes back to the community TENFOLD. Our state legislators are already supporting this project with a $4.5 million capital contribution. Issue 3 is a small investment with a large return for all of us. The cost is $14 per year for a $100,000 property value.
I will vote YES for Issue 3 on Nov. 6. Robin S. Baum Concord Township
