The following are some of the Veterans Day events being planned in The NewsHerald’s coverage area.

Chardon

Lt. Col. Allen West, U.S. Army retired, will be speaking at the Veterans Day ceremony in Chardon on Nov. 11.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the Geauga County Courthouse on Chardon Square.

West is a highly decorated officer and combat veteran who is a wellknown political commentato­r and former member of the U.S. House of Representa­tives from Florida’s 22nd congressio­nal district, according to a news release.

In Congress, West served on the Armed Services and Small Business Committees and was a high-profile member of the Tea Party Caucus and the Tea Party movement, the release stated.

Euclid

Euclid’s Veterans Day ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 11, at the City Hall 585 E. 222nd St.

The public is invited to join the city and The Euclid Joint Veterans Council as they gather to recognize and honor those who served the cause of freedom throughout the nation’s history.

Kirtland

The Historic Kirtland Visitors’ Center will host “God bless the USA: A Tribute to Our Veterans” at 4 and 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at 7800 Kirtland-Chardon Road.

This musical tribute event is open to the public.

Madison

American Legion Post 112, 6671 Middle Ridge Road in Madison, will host a veterans dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 10, at the post home.

Mentor

A Veterans Day Breakfast & Ceremony will take place from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Nov. 10 at the Mentor Senior Center, 8484 Munson Road. Pancake breakfast and recognitio­n event are free for veterans.

Reservatio­ns must be made in advance by calling the senior center at 440974-5725.

A Veterans Day Ceremony will then be held 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 11 at the Mentor Veterans Memorial, 8484 Munson Road.

The public is invited to help honor the men and women who have served the country. For more informatio­n or to participat­e, call Mentor Recreation at 440974-5720.

Parkman Township

Eric Patterson, a piper with the Geauga Highlander­s Pipes & Drums, will be at the Overlook Cemetery at 18145 Tavern Road in Parkman Township at 6 a.m. Nov. 11 to play a bagpipe solo in memory of the many who served and the sacrifices they made during World War I.

Patterson retired from the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel after 20 years of service. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and he was an infantry and special forces officer with multiple deployment­s to combat zones during his time in the Army.

The event is in honor of the 100th anniversar­y of the ending of WWI.

Parma

Cuyahoga Community College will honor the men and women who served in the nation’s military during a Veterans Day observance at 11 a.m. Nov. 9 at the Veterans Memorial Garden and Galleria in its Western Campus.

The program will include a presentati­on by Tri-C’s James Banks — director of the Crile Archive Center for History Education at Western Campus — on “World War I, George Crile and the Founding of the Cleveland Clinic.”

The archives serve as a repository of materials about Crile, a Cleveland surgeon who led a Northeast Ohio medical team that treated wounded soldiers in France during World War I. Crile later helped found the Cleveland Clinic.

Tours of the archives and the College’s Crile Veterans Center will follow the Veterans Day observance.

The Western Campus is located at 11000 Pleasant Valley Road in Parma. Free parking is available.

Tri-C serves thousands of Northeast Ohio veterans every year through its Veterans Initiative.
