Event set for sur­vivors of sui­cide loss

Lake County’s fourth an­nual Sur­vivors of Sui­cide Loss event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Nov. 17, at Bea­con Health, 9220 Men­tor Ave. in Men­tor.

The event, part of a na­tional ini­tia­tive of the Amer­i­can Foun­da­tion for Sui­cide Preven­tion, aims to help those who have lost a loved one to sui­cide find com­fort and gain per­spec­tive through shared sto­ries of heal­ing and hope, ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease.

It is pre­sented lo­cally by the Lake County Sui­cide Preven­tion Coali­tion and the Lake County Al­co­hol, Drug Ad­dic­tion, and Men­tal Health Ser­vices Board with sup­port from Hos­pice of the Western Re­serve, Bea­con Health, and Univer­sity Hos­pi­tals.

The event will fea­ture a screen­ing of “A Daugh­ter’s Jour­ney,” a doc­u­men­tary that fol­lows Sarah, a young adult, through her story of mile­stones, fam­ily, cop­ing, and pos­i­tive growth af­ter the loss of her fa­ther.

Speak­ers will in­clude Dr. Pa­trick Run­nels from Univer­sity Hos­pi­tals and Tammy O’Neil, a sur­vivor of a sui­cide loss. Art therapist Mol­lie Bor­gione will guide par­tic­i­pants through self-help ex­er­cises, the re­lease stated.
