Isabella in running for Biletnikoff
Andy Isabella is reaping the rewards for his mega-breakout senior season.
The UMass wide receiver Nov. 12 was named one of 11 semifinalists for the 2018 Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top FBS receiver.
Isabella ranks among the nation’s leaders in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns receptions through 11 games for the Minutemen. With one game to play in the regular season — UMass plays at Georgia on Nov. 17 — Isabella is No. 1 in the nation with 1,479 receiving yards and 87 receptions. His 11 TD receptions are tied for third nationally.
Other notable achievements for Isabella, according to the UMass sports information department:
• He has a 35-game
streak with at least two receptions.
• He has at least three catches in 34 of his last 35 games.
• During that span, he has 12 100-yard games, including a school-record 303-yard effort against Liberty on Nov. 3.
Issabella recently told The News-Herald he’s not thinking about postseason honors, but rather finishing the regular season strong and appreciating the bigger picture with his UMass teammates.
“With my college career winding down, it’s more about the relationships
I’ve built here,” Isabella said. “(Awards and honors) would be cool for my parents, my friends and the people back at Mayfield.”
The Biletnikoff Award will be presented Dec. 6 at The Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN.
