NAMI Geauga County is starting the new year in a new location.

Formerly located on the square in Chardon, at 107 South St., the organization is now at Maywood Centre, 8389 Mayfield Road, Suite A-2.

The new 2,400-squarefoot location, previously home to an insurance business and a separate boutique, is two times larger than NAMI Geauga County’s former space.

Executive Director Jenn Bartone said the most exciting aspect of the relocation is being able to reach more families in Chester Township.

“We were supported in such an amazing way in Chardon, but this allows us to reach so many more people within Geauga County. I’m really looking forward to meeting the Chesterland community and the government bodies of the township.”

One of the biggest benefits of the relocation, Bartone added, other than being more centrally located in the county, is being in a ground floor unit.

“No more stairs. This space is much more conducive for those with disabilities. And our goal this year is to start our annual Walk (for Mental Health fundraiser) from here instead of going somewhere else and renting a facility.

“And our staff and our support groups have both doubled, so the space we have is amazing,” Bartone said. “That’s important; being someone to turn to in the community is a blessing. The awareness continues to grow.”

The new space now allows the National Alliance on Mental Illness Geauga County to hold multiple support groups in one night with all of the staff together.

Additional parking is also a big benefit, Bartone noted.

“Transportation options are also huge here, being at (state Route) 306 and (U.S. Route) 322.”

Having been in Chester Township just under two months, Bartone envisions the organization growing even more.

“When I started three years ago, I think it was more about word of mouth, families telling other families that we’re a resource, but now other agencies and facilities are recognizing us. People are more aware and with this move, we’re able to help so many more people.

“To finally get the recognition of NAMI’s capabilities and how far we can reach and how much we can help change the lives of those affected by mental health is so impacting and rewarding,” she said.
