Library announces next round of computer classes
Mentor Public Library is hosting eight free computer classes at its Main Branch, including basic introductions to computers, the Internet, Facebook and Microsoft Word.
In a news release, the library revealed the classes include:
• An introduction to computers — 2 p.m., Jan. 22. People will learn the basic skills they need to use a computer. No previous experience required.
• Microsoft Word I — 6:30 p.m., Jan. 22, and Microsoft Word II at 6:30 p.m., Jan. 23. Learn basic and then progressively more advanced techniques for Microsoft’s word processing software.
• Basic Internet skills — 10 a.m., Jan. 23. Learn how to navigate the Internet. Participants will need to know how to use a keyboard and a mouse for this class.
• Introduction to PowerPoint — 2 p.m., Jan. 23. Learn the basics of PowerPoint and how to make a polished professional presentation.
• Basic email skills — 10 a.m., Jan. 24. Learn how to send emails and attachments, as well as reply to other people’s emails.
• Introduction to Facebook — 2 p.m., Jan. 24. The hands-on class will demonstrate basic Facebook features and tips. Please come to class with your Facebook login information and password.
• Introduction to Microsoft Publisher — 6:30 p.m., Jan. 24.
All of the classes are free. However, registration is required; and, because space is limited, people will want to sign up as soon as possible, the release stated.

The library also offers several online courses that teach how to use Microsoft software with the Lynda. com database. The courses are free to watch.
