Police Department hiring full-time patrol officers
The city of Mentor Civil Service Commission will be open to applications for a written exam to determine eligibility for fulltime police officer positions.
According to a Jan. 16 posting, the written exam is scheduled for Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. and applications are accepted through Feb. 8 at the Mentor Municipal Center. Chief Kevin Knight said that his department is looking to fill about six positions.
“We’re looking for people who want to make this a career, who are going to be here at least 25 years,” the chief said.
Some of the basic qualifications include: United States citizenship (or in the process of); between 21 years old at the time of appointment and on or before 36th birthday; high school graduate or GED; and valid driver’s license.
Applicants are also required to take a physical agility test, polygraph test, background investigation, medical exam, psychological test and an oral interview.
The posting stated that the salary range — as of March 31 — is $58,968.26 to $82,717.96.
Knight said that all of the open positions are replacements and that the amount of hires varies from year to year.
“We like to fill those positions as soon as we can, but there’s a process that we follow,” he said. “... within two to three months after we give the test, hopefully we’ll have some viable candidates we’ll be able to start putting on.”
Applications can be found online, or can be picked up and turned in at Mentor Municipal Center weekdays Jan. 28 to Feb. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
