Football coach says it’s his last season
The 2019 high school football season will be Coach Steve Trivisonno’s last with the Mentor Cardinals.
Trivisonno announced on Twitter (@coachtriv) early Feb. 6) that he will be stepping down from his position as Cardinals’ head coach after the 2019 season, thus ending a successful 23year reign as the head of his alma mater’s football program.
Trivisonno made the announcement to his players after a morning workout prior to the Feb. 6 school day termed “Red Dawn 1.”
“I’ve known for a while,” Trivisonno said in a phone interview with The NewsHerald. “It’s just time. I wanted to make sure I didn’t stay too long. I didn’t want to leave too early or stay too late. As I told the kids, I just think it’s time.”
Trivisonno enters his final year at Mentor with a 196-69 (.740) career record. He took over the reins of the program in 1997 after coach Mike Pavlansky departed for a job at Canfield.
