Li­brary wel­comes award-win­ning artist

This year marks the cel­e­bra­tion of the 50th An­niver­sary of the ALA Coretta Scott King Book Awards, and at 6 p.m., Feb. 20, the Wil­loughby Hills Li­brary will join the na­tion­wide cel­e­bra­tion with a spe­cial trib­ute event.

The li­brary will host “An Il­lus­tra­tors’ Con­ver­sa­tion with CSK Book Award Win­ner — Floyd Cooper” in con­ver­sa­tion with lo­cal fine artist Jerome White.

Cooper re­ceived a Coretta Scott King Il­lus­tra­tor Award in 2008 for his il­lus­tra­tions in “The Blacker the Berry” and earned three ad­di­tional Coretta Scott King Award Hon­ors for other il­lus­tra­tions in ad­di­tion to other na­tional hon­ors.

Both artists will have orig­i­nal art­work on dis­play and books for the au­di­ences to en­joy dur­ing the month of Fe­bru­ary. A Cul­tural Ex­change book­store will pro­vide books for pur­chase dur­ing the sign­ing re­cep­tion to be held af­ter the pro­gram.
