Painesville’s attempts to make inroads with an increasingly younger residential median age, which hovers in the early 30s, has found an ally in the Eastern Revival Skateshop and the launch of skate-related events they plan on kicking off for 2019.

Donovan Knebusch said his Painesville skate shop opened toward the latter half of 2018 and has steadily been gaining a positive word of mouth throughout the skateboarding community. He now intends to spread the positive vibes with the rest of the city by holding a concert and skate showcase event at nearby Nemeth’s Lounge on Feb. 24.

“This is just a way for people to see who we are from other sides of town,” Knebusch said.

The event, organized by Knebush’s colleague Nick Murosko, will feature live music from local bands Black Water, Pizza Creeps, Oongow, and the Jawbone River Band.

Eastern Revival will be screening various skateboarding films to get those in attendance in a shredding state of mind. There will also be raffle prizes, shirts, and gift certificates from the Skateshop given out throughout the event.

Weather permitting, Knebusch also plans on holding a showcase of skate skills with riders performing outside of the venue.

The event will only be the beginning if Knebusch has his way.

“We’re going to do a myriad of these. This is just the first one,” he said. “We’re going to do the Art in the Park and Party in the Park events, we’ll put our best riders out there and show them off.”

His ambitions for the future align with statements made by Painesville’s Economic Director Cathy Bieterman who recently expressed desire for their storefronts and downtown area to better appeal to a
