NORTHEAST OHIO’S ANNUAL GEEK-OUT
This market has treated Wizard World very well through what soon will be five comic cons in downtown Cleveland
Wizard World Comic Con Public Relations Manager Jerry Milani said it became apparent early on Northeast Ohio would be a special market for the annual touring pop-culture convention.
“We’re about to be in our fifth year in Cleveland, and it’s been one of our most successful shows,” Milani said. “Northeast Ohio was a market that I think was really looking for an event like ours when we first came in 2015. That’s still true today.
“We knew we had a winner when that first year we had 95 percent redemption despite 8 inches of snow on the Saturday. So we really feel like the city has embraced us. It’s a chance for fans to be themselves, discuss what they love with others who enjoy those shows, characters, comics, whatever.”
Wizard World Cleveland 2019 is scheduled for March 8 through 10 at Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland.
This year’s affair features a slew of celebrity guests, including Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” “Justice League”), Sean Astin (“The Lord of the Rings,” “Stranger Things”), Chad Michael Murray (“One Tree Hill,” “Agent Carter”) and “Charmed” trio Holly Marie Combs, Brian Krause and Drew Fuller.
“Momoa has been a huge hit at our events,” Milani said. “Having the star of a current blockbuster hit is always a great attraction for fans. We also have John Glover (‘Smallville,’ ‘Lucifer” and ‘Judging Amy’) and Tom Welling (‘Smallville,’ ‘Lucifer’), who don’t make a lot of appearances.”
