Hunter Jumper Classic announces 2019 dates

The annual show offers a variety of events for horses and riders of all levels and abilities.

Competitio­n dates and featured events have been announced for the 2019 Chagrin Hunter Jumper Classic.

Slated for July 4-14 at the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field in Moreland Hills, the show offers a variety of events for horses and riders of all levels and abilities.

The Hunter Jumper Classic kicks off this year with its unrated Opening Week Show sponsored by Schneider Saddlery from July 4-6. Schneider Saddlery, based in Bainbridge Township, was founded in 1948 by Milt Schneider and is now a third generation-run operation consisting of equestrian retail, wholesale and e-commerce.

The event’s Horse and Hound Relay will take place at 5 p.m. July 5, in conjunctio­n with the Bits and Leashes fundraiser to ben- ciety’s Rescue Village. The Hunter Jumper Classic’s rated horse shows begin July 9. Top money highlights this year include the $20,000 Internatio­nal Hunter Derby at 5 p.m., July 13, and the $50,000 Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund Cleveland Grand Prix, starting at 2 p.m., July 14.

Last year, the Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund signed a three-year agreement to sponsor the event’s prestigiou­s Grand Prix title competitio­n.

Named for 27-year-old equestrian philanthro­pist Lindsay Maxwell, “The Lindsay Maxwell Charitable Fund supports organizati­ons and programs that improve the lives of children with special needs; enables access to educationa­l opportunit­ies; and provides care, compassion and protection to animals,” the Hunter Jumper Classic Board of Directors stated in a 2018 news release. “These goals are closely aligned with our board mission for the Chagrin Hunter Jumper Classic: Run a first-class horse show; raise money for charitable causes; and provide educationa­l programmin­g.”

This year, the event’s Board of Directors has added three new members to its ranks. They are Dan Cicora of Gates Mills, Robyn Smith of Bratenahl and Lisa Stone of Beachwood. All three have previously volunteere­d for various duties at the horse show, a recent news release stated.

The Chagrin Hunter Jumper Classic annually attracts 600 horses from 30 states and multiple countries, according to the event’s website. In addition, the show draws close to 10,000 spectators every year.
