LAKELAND PLAYERS HONORED
There were plenty of accolades for the Lakeland men’s and women’s basketball teams on March 12. Eight players were named to the men’s and women’s All-Ohio Community College Athletic Conference basketball teams. The players honored:
MEN
John Dawson, first-team
and all-freshman: Dawson is second on the Lakers averaging 15.8 points and led the team with 4.4 assists. He was also named to the All-District 11 team. Tyreke Johnson, Rob Brown, honorable mention: Johnson leads the team at 16.1 points and 5.9 rebounds, and Brown averages 12.5 points and 5.8 rebounds. Chandler Fointno, honorable mention, all-defensive: Fointno averages 9.8 points, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals. He was named the District 11 tournament most valuable player. Lakeland is 25-6 on the season, and next plays in the Division II National Tournament in Danville, Ill. Its first-round game has yet to be determined.
WOMEN
Delesha Jackson, first-team: Jackson averaged 14 points and 5.1 rebounds. She also was named to the D-II All-District I team. Alicia Shephus, Desinty Khay, honorable mention: Sephus averaged 10.6 points and 9.9 rebounds. Khay averaged 11 points and made 73 3-pointers. She made eight 3s in a game vs. Bryant & Stratton this season. Ziona Williams, all-defensive: Williams averaged 9.4 points and 3.3 steals. Lakeland finished the season at 21-10, and lost in the NJCAA Region XII District I championship game.
