The council announced that its 14th annual March for Meals event will take place at the Great Lakes Mall

The Lake County Council on Aging announced that its 14th annual March for Meals event will take place March 30 at the Great Lakes Mall in Mentor.

The Food Court doors open at 8 a.m. for registration and the event runs from 8:30 until 10.

Funds raised stay local and are used to support five nutrition sites in Lake County serving Meals on Wheels to homebound seniors; as well as the meals provided at senior Lunch Place sites, according to a news release.

In 2018, volunteer drivers delivered over 170,000 Meals on Wheels; and 28,757 meals were served at Lunch Place sites, the release stated.

“At times, a visit from a Meals on Wheels volunteer is the only social interaction our homebound seniors get on a daily basis,” said Council on Aging CEO Joe Tomsick. “Of course the meal served is nutritionally important, but the daily visit provides a means for Council on Aging to check on those seniors who are frail and may be at risk.”

Individuals can participate in the event as a walker and can also raise pledges in support of the Lake County Council on Aging’s nutrition programs.

To register as a walker, create a walk team, or donate, visit www.march4meals.org or call 440-2058111.

The walker fee is $15 for adults or $5 for children 12 and under. All walkers are automatically entered into a walker raffle to win prizes, and there will also be a Chinese auction raffle.

The Lake Catholic High School Drum Line and Mentor High School Cheerleaders will lead off the march, after the singing of the National Anthem by Northeast Ohio’s Dante Citraro.

Team members from the Mentor Ice Breakers will also be in attendance, along with their mascot Slam!
