TripleA Columbus toppled the Toledo Mud Hens (16-27) on May 23, 7-2. Columbus jumped to an early lead with a run in both the first and third innings. Toledo tied it with two in the fifth, but Columbus’ Mark Mathias and Bobby Bradley brought the lead back to the Clippers with a home run each. Bradley’s was a two-run and Mathias a solo. They both went 2-for-4. Zach Plesac (3-0) held it down on the mound and got the win. He threw seven innings, gave up four hits, two runs, walked none and struck out six.

Double-A Akron got an early lead, held off a two-run rally and added a late-game run for assurance to take a 6-2 victory over the the Western Division’s first-place team, the Harrisburg Senators (29-16). The Ducks scored two in the first. Li-Jen Chu (2-for-4) kicked it off with an RBI single scoring Wilson Garcia. Ka’ai Tom hit a double to left that scored Jorma Rodriguez. Tom and Tyler Kreiger both went 3-for-4 with doubles. Alexis Pantoja went 2-for-4 with a double. Aaron Civale got the win and is 3-0. He pitched five innings, gave up two runs, walked two and struck out seven. David Speer earned his first save.

Advanced Single-A Lynchburg (28-19) defeated the Carolina Mudcats, 5-2, on May 23. The Hillcats got an early lead scoring two in the first on a Nolan Jones (1-for-4) homer that scored Wilbis Santiago (1-for-3). They added two more in the fifth and one more in the sixth on an Oscar Gonzalez homer to cap the night. Carolina tried to rally in the ninth with a home run for two, but could not scoot anymore across the plate. Matt Solter (3-0) got the win. He pitched five and two-thirds, walked two and struck out five.
