Stella’s Art Gallery
Stella’s Art Gallery, 800 Station St., Mentor, last weekend opened the “Inspired by Northeast Ohio” show with an awards presentation during the gallery’s popular Second Friday event. This monthly reception is a welcoming mix of artists and art lovers to the gallery spaces at Stella’s, and the new show for the month takes center stage.
The show is divided into two categories: Digital and Traditional.
The winners in Digital: first place, Dwight Boyer; second place; and third place, Andy Cross.
The winners in Traditional: first place, Kathy Sabbath Oravecz; second place, Irina Zelikman; and third place, Joel Bartell. Honorable mentions were presented to Robin Borer, Andy Cross, Tracey Zakreysek, Sherry Harris and Theresa Kramer.
Samantha Bias took the Best in Show with a piece called “The Tower.”
This is gallery owner Dani Klein’s favorite show of the year.
“I love being in the gallery and surrounded by artwork Inspired by Northeast Ohio,” she said. “It’s a reminder of how beautiful our area really is, no matter the season! Furthermore, I find the artists’ brief statements a joy to read! Each artist submitted a short statement about how Northeast Ohio has inspired them to create the artwork on display. Their stories are heartwarming and make you feel blessed to live here and see NEO through their eyes.”
Next month’s show is “Photographers Only,” with the categories of Landscape, Animals, Architecture, Flowers, and Abstract. Artwork will be accepted Sept. 6 and 7 between 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
It’s time to be thinking and working towards the October show, “OddBall Art.” Here’s one where you can truly let your mind play with little supervision. Titles are especially fun on artwork and add a layer of meaning to the piece. “Still Life No. 1” just doesn’t cut it here. Artwork for this show will be due Oct. 4 and 5.
