BEHAVIORAL HEALTH
Q:How can I help my teen who is struggling with mental health and drug use?
A:Summer is here. For many adolescents, that could mean a lack of structure, decreased activities, and potential for social isolation. These are factors that could contribute to substance use and all of the possible consequences that could occur as a result, such as arrests, probation, and incarceration. While some parents may think this could be innocent experimentation, the risks are still present. Data shows that in 2017, more than 70,000 Americans died from drug overdoses, which was a record. No one wants to believe that their child will be among those numbers, but this is a very real problem. You don’t know when it’s going to hit home until it does. Prevention is the best way to avoid these issues and we have many options for you to consider for your teen.
Premier Behavioral Health Services offers a wide range of treatment options for adolescents, including an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for mental health and substance use diagnoses. The group, called the Adolescent Dual Diagnosis IOP, meets 3 times per week, with families invited to join twice per month. Group facilitators aim to make the group educational and enjoyable, with goals for the clients to increase coping skills, decrease life-threatening behaviors, achieve sobriety, and maintain abstinence.
If you believe you or someone you know may benefit from attending the IOP, please call us to schedule an assessment. The skilled team at PBHS offers a variety of treatment methods to best suit your unique needs. Using evidence-based techniques, we can navigate through these difficult times by developing an individualized treatment plan. Together, we will create a life worth living.
