Antonio Caniglia said he gets the same question every day from Davitino’s restaurant patrons.

“Are you closed?” has been a constant comment since the Mentor staple announced in August its impending retirement. The eatery remains open for dinner.

“(I want to) clear up any miscommunication,” said Caniglia. “We’re in the process of selling . ... We are looking for a buyer.”

He said the business will remain open until one is found and that patrons will be given plenty of notice before it closes.

“Your restaurant is like your family base,” he said. “We want to make sure people know.”

Caniglia’s parents, David and Tina, opened the restaurant in 1988 on Mentor Avenue in Colonial Plaza, just east of Route 306. It relocated several years ago to a shopping center at 8820 Mentor Ave.

Hours are 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesdays through Thursdays; 4 to 9 p.m., Fridays; 3 to 9 p.m., Saturdays; 3 to 7 p.m., Sundays; and closed Mondays.
