District’s 2019 an uphill battle

Painesvill­e Schools approached 2019 with a wide perspectiv­e toward educationa­l applicatio­ns which saw partnershi­ps with neighborin­g institutio­ns and the facilitati­on of several student-focused groups.

Girls with HEARTS (Having Expectatio­ns Always Ready To Succeed) launched in January. The female student club was formed by Elm Street Elementary care profession­al Donna Link.

“We use education and compassion as an instrument of change,” Link said in a past interview.

She detailed the purpose of HEARTS “is to show that learning is fun and empowering to our lives, to implement life skills and problem solving skills enhanced through the community engagement, to build social skills among our girls in the community, to improve cognitive and critical learning skills, and to maintain positive attitudes when faced with obstacles and changes.”
