A look at highlights from News-Herald coverage area squads from games in this next-to-last week of the regular season:

• On its third try, Brush recorded a 6-4 Blue South win Jan. 29 over Elyria Catholic out in Elyria. The Arcs had lost to the Panthers twice this season, 6-3 on Dec. 26 in their first league game and a 9-2 rout Dec. 14 during the Rocket Invitational at Winterhurst. Ben Hidek lit the lamp four times for Brush, Isaac Alexander and Seth Martin each had a goal and two assists and Sean Miller recorded 39 saves.

The Arcs are 5-9 this winter, surpassing their victory total from the last five seasons combined (four). Brush closes the regular season Feb. 7 against Garfield Heights at Cleveland Heights.

• Tristan Cotter had 36 saves and Andrew Bernard and Michael Wilk each netted first-period goals as Benedictine edged Cleveland Heights, 2-1, in a Red clash Jan. 30.

The Bengals (10-12) had to withstand a late flurry in front of the crease, and a shot into the back of the net by Heights was disallowed because it came after the final buzzer.

Cotter returned to the lineup after sustaining a collarbone injury, which afforded action to freshman goaltender Michael Pelc. Pelc had 14 saves in a 5-2 win over Kenston and 28 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to Strongsville.

• Chagrin Falls recorded a commendable 5-5 tie in nonleague play Feb. 1 against Parma at The Pond. The Redmen are 24-4-1 and lead the White South.

The Tigers were outshot, 62-28, but netminder Charlie Gunn had 57 saves to keep his team in the game. Garrin Bunker had two goals and an assist for Chagrin.

• Gilmour continued its unbeaten Great Lakes Hockey League campaign with a 6-2 win at Ries over Holy Name and an 11-1 mercy-rule decision over Padua.

Justin Evans lit the lamp twice and assisted on another for the Lancers against the Green Wave and four goals and two assists against the Bruins. Joe Roddy had five assists in the Padua win.

• University closed the Hoosier Cup Scholastic Showcase at Notre Dame with a 4-3 win over Penn (Ind.). Andrew Rozenshtraukh scored twice for the Preppers.
