Lake Health limiting visitors because of flu

- Staff report

Lake Health has announced that is has begun limiting visitors to protect patients and staff.

Lake Health announced that it has begun limiting visitors to West Medical Center, TriPoint Medical Center and Beachwood Medical Center to protect patients, staff, and visitors during a high level of flu activity.

Although Lake Health said it will make exceptions in some circumstances, the following temporary restrictions have been put in place immediately:

• Visitors must be 18 years of age or older; visitation will be limited to two healthy visitors per patient.

• Adults who exhibit any flu-like symptoms or have been diagnosed with the flu within the past seven days are asked not to visit.

• All visitors will be asked to wash their hands before and after a patient visit using soap and water or the alcohol-based hand sanitizer located in each patient room.

Patients visiting Lake Health’s urgent care centers will be asked to wear a mask that will be provided by the hospital to help prevent the spread of flu, according to a news release. Patients who have flu-like symptoms are also asked to reschedule any outpatient appointments, such as physical therapy or routine lab/imaging procedures, for when they are feeling better.

For more information on the seasonal flu, visit the Lake County General Health District website or the Center for Disease Control’s website. Lake health also noted it’s not too late to get a flu shot.
