Never mind the first half of the game between Ursuline College and visiting Lake Erie College on Feb. 13 at Seidman Gymnasium.

The shots weren’t falling for either team and the overall quality was lackluster.

Then came a second half that produced basketball of a much higher order.

When the back and forth was done, the Storm held off a last-ditch possession by the Arrows to post a 65-63 victory.

Senior guard Josie Chaddock paced LEC with a game-high 22 points and team-high totals of 11 rebounds and four assists. The Storm upped their records to 9-15 overall and 6-8 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. Chaddock scored 11 points in the decisive fourth quarter as LEC erased a sixpoint deficit. A driving layup by Chaddock with 27.3 seconds remaining and her two free throws with 11.5 seconds remaining gave the Storm a much-needed late push.

“After the first half, we knew if we kept shooting, the ball would start to fall in,” Chaddock said. “In the second half, we used our pressure defense to create momentum.”

Junior forward Breanna Bauer aided LEC’s cause with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Ursuline slipped 6-17 overall and 4-10 in the G-MAC with its third straight loss.

Senior guard Ky Crevison paced the Arrows with 15 points. Senior forward Julia Cardwell contributed 13 points and a gamehigh 14 rebounds. Junior guard Sam Jenkins added 12 points and seven rebounds. From a 24-24 deadlock at halftime, Ursuline broke away in the third quarter to carry a 49-43 lead into the final stanza. The Arrows couldn’t hold off the late push by Chaddock and the Storm, however.

“Their pressure defense and our lack of composure were the difference tonight,” Ursuline coach Shannon Sword said.
