3 YMCA branches shut down indefinite­ly over virus concerns

Child care and school day off care programs remain open

Add the three branches of the Lake County YMCA to the growing list of area fitness clubs and gyms closing their doors to combat the spread of the novel coronaviru­s.

The closures were effective at 10 p.m., March 16, at the Central branch in Painesvill­e, West End branch in Willoughby and East End branch in Madison Township.

The Lake County YMCA announced the closures in a statement posted to its website lakecounty­ymca. org.

Here is that statement: “At the Lake County YMCA, the safety and well-being of our members, staff, volunteers and the broader community have always been and will always be a top priority.

“We have been diligently monitoring all national and local updates surroundin­g the COVID-19

The closures were effective at 10 p.m., March 16, at the Central branch in Painesvill­e, West End branch in Willoughby and East End branch in Madison Township.

(coronaviru­s) situation. In alignment with the governor’s executive order, we will be closing our facilities to the public effective Monday, March 16, 2020 at 10:00 pm until further notice.

“Our child care and school day off care will remain open until we are no longer legally allowed to remain in operation. We continue to encourage those who can stay home with their children to do so.

“We understand that closing our facility will affect many of our members. All membership­s will be placed on hold effective immediatel­y and will remain on hold until we are able to safely reopen our facilities.

“We understand this is a very concerning situation. The Lake County Y has been a pillar of the community for more than 154 years, throughout both good and challengin­g times. During this closure, you can expect regular updates from us via email. our website and our social media channels: Facebook (@LakeCounty­Y), Twitter (@LakeCounty­Y), and Instagram (@lakecounty­ymcaohio).

“Thank you for your patience and understand­ing as we navigate this evolving and challengin­g situation. We look forward to returning to business as usual as soon as possible.”
