Hugley, Lake duo lead area D-I, II All-Ohio selections

John Hugley, Luke Frazier and Luka Eller will continue their basketball careers at the Division I level.

At the end of their high school careers, they’re recognized among Ohio’s best players. All three earned first team All-Ohio honors in their respective divisions, as announced by the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Associatio­n March 17.

Hugley, the D-I Northeast Lakes District Player of the Year, posted 24 points, 13.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game for Brush. The 6-foot10 senior is signed to Pitt.

Mentor point guard Luke Chicone also received second team All-Ohio in D-II. The junior Youngstown State commit averaged 19.7 points, 5.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game as he helped lead the Cardinals to a D-I Cleveland regional final.

Chicone delivered one of the program’s all-time best performanc­es in Mentor’s double-overtime victory against Medina in a regional semifinal. He scored 39 points and nine rebounds to will the Cardinals into the elite eight before the state tournament was indefinite­ly postponed.

Frazier, a Dayton commit, and Eller, committed to Miami (Ohio), received first team All-Ohio in D-II.

Frazier led the Cougars in scoring at 22.2 points per game, alongside averages of 6.7 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.2 blocks and 2.1 steals per game. His performanc­e during

Divisions I and II All-Ohio boys basketball the latter half of his senior year helped Lake Catholic finish the regular season 16-6 and with a share of the NCL Blue title. Frazier concluded his career as the program’s second-leading scorer and the all-time leader in steals and assists.

Eller posted 21.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and two steals per game.

The 6-foot-9 senior earned first team All-Ohio status for the second straight year.

Eller finished his Lake Catholic career as the Cougars’ all-time leading scorer with 2,001 points and their career rebounding leader.

West Geauga junior Josh Irwin received second team All-Ohio in D-II. The Wolverines’ standout averaged 22.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game, while hitting 55 3-pointers. Irwin became the program’s all-time leading scorer and 3-point shooter during his junior year. He needed just two seasons to claim West Geauga’s career rebounding lead.

Gilmour senior Connor O’Toole earned All-Ohio special mention in D-II. The Lancers’ career assist and 3-point shooting leader averaged 12.8 points and 6.2 assists per game, and hit 60 3-pointers.
