The vacant Giant Eagle space in Mentor has a suitor.

An Urban Air Adventure Park is proposed in the 65,000-squarefoot site at 7960 Plaza Blvd., in the Erie Commons Shopping Center.

The indoor trampoline park requires a conditional-use permit from the city Planning Commission to allow a commercial recreational facility in the B-2 General Business District.

“When we emerge from current social-distancing practices, Urban Air will represent an active and enjoyable location for families and children of all ages to recreate and enjoy trampolines, indoor go-karting and ziplines,” Mentor Economic Development Director Kevin Malecek said.

“It’s another way Mentor businesses continue to re-image the Great Lakes Mall area to be a place of not only retail, but also experiences.”

The applicant is proposing to improve the front of the building, dating to 1973, so the project will also receive an architectural review.

The city administration is requesting that the CUP and re-imaging applications for Urban Air be tabled until the April 16 meeting.

“Additional information is required to complete our review of this request and the applicant was unable to provide such information in time for the March 26 meeting,” said Planning Director Kathy Mitchell in a report to the commission.

“The applicant has indicated that they will supply the necessary information in time for the next meeting.”

Parking for the business will be shared with the existing JoAnn Fabrics and At

Home stores.

The site was vacated when the new Giant Eagle opened in May in the City Market development at Route 615 and Tyler Boulevard.

The Urban Air project is the latest proposal to freshen sister centers of Erie Commons and Great Lakes Plaza. Last year, facade improvements were made to the Jo-Ann store as part of a deal to enable At Home furniture to lease the Burlington space. The latter relocated to the former HHGregg site in Great Lakes Plaza.

Urban Air’s nearest location is in Akron.
