Judge gives update on Juvenile/Probate Court
Geauga County Juvenile/ Probate Court Judge Tim Grendell said that he, magistrate Abbey King, and a reduced staff are continuing to provide necessary incourt probate and juvenile judicial services.
“Judge Tim Grendell and his staff want to assure Geauga residents that the Geauga County Probate/Juvenile
Court will remain open and available to protect children, seniors and families,” a news release from Grendell’s office stated. “Judge Tim Grendell will be available 24/7 to work with Sheriff Hildenbrand and his deputies, local Police Officers, Geauga County Jobs and Family Services, and the Department of Aging to provide essential judicial services to our residents.”
Those who know a child or family in need of emergency judicial services are asked to contact Ann Walden at 440-279-1854.
Those who know of a senior or someone disabled, in need of assistant or guardianship protection, are asked to contact Cheryl Napoli-Koncler at 440-2791840.
Currently, the court is conducting most hearings through telecommunications to minimize the number of people who much physically appear in court. Those with questions about an upcoming hearing are asked to call 440-279-1830.
Grendell said in the release that the court “will continue the precautionary measures implemented last week to help ensure the health and safety of those who must appear in person.”
Those precautions include requiring all individuals who come to the court to wash or sanitize their hands upon entering the building. All all counters, tables, and doorknobs are disinfected throughout the day.
Another precautionary measure is all essential hearings, emergency custody, guardianship and statutorily required hearings will be held in court, but only the parties, their attorneys and required witnesses shall attend.
Marriage licenses are still available. Grendell encourages those in need of one to begin the application process online.
