Lubrizol Corp. is making $2 million worth of donations to help charitable organizations and hospitals around the world as they respond to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
“Supporting and protecting our neighbors is part of our Lubrizol corporate philosophy,” the Wickliffe-based manufacturer and developer of specialty chemicals stated on its website. “In this COVID-19 environment, we’ve been actively supporting our communities as part of our mission to improve lives.”
Lubrizol, which operates manufacturing plants in 17 countries, has made donations to aid people and organizations affected by COVID-19 overseas, nationwide, and in Northeast Ohio. Some of its contributions include:
• Donating medical supplies in China. Lubrizol employees purchased and contributed more than $325,000 worth of critical supplies for local hospitals and charitable organizations, according to its website.
• Grub for Scrubs.
Through this program, Lubrizol purchases meals from area restaurants and then donates this food to those working at hospitals in the same communities as they care for patients.
In Northeast Ohio, staff at University Hospitals and Metro Health both recently had meals furnished through Lubrizol’s Grub for Scrubs.
• Equipping hospitals in Europe. Lubrizol employees in France donated coveralls, shoe covers, protective glasses and masks to medical centers.
Because of frequent hand washing during COVID-19, moisturizers also are a product in demand for medical providers. To help provide proper skin care, Lubrizol employees in Spain donated hand cream to area hospitals.
• Fulfilling community needs in Northeast Ohio.
The Lubrizol Foundation donated $10,000 to Cleveland’s MetroHealth Foundation’s Helping Hand Fund to meet immediate emergency requests for food, over-thecounter medication, household cleaning supplies and hygiene products as the virus started to spread in the U.S.
Lubrizol also made a $30,000 donation to the
Greater Cleveland Food Bank, to support the organization as it works to make sure that children, families and senior citizens in need are able to receive nutritious food during the COVID-19 crisis.
In addition to the $2 million in donations, Lubrizol is using its scientific, technological and manufacturing expertise to help in creating end-use products considered critical during the COVID-19 outbreak.
For example, Lubrizol is bringing about the production of an additional 1 billion bottles of hand sanitizer globally every month by increasing its Carbopol production.
Since early January, Lubrizol has “pulled every available lever to support growing Carbopol demand and converted its global manufacturing assets to prioritize supply for cleansing and sanitizing products,” the company stated.
Lubrizol, founded in 1928, has an international workforce of about 8,800 employees. In addition to its world headquarters and technical center in Wickliffe, the company also operates a plant in Painesville Township.
