Painesville Township trustees host socially distanced shredding day
The Painesville Township trustees hosted their annual Document Shredding Day. The event took place behind Fire Station Three at 550 Hardy Road in Painesville Township from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Unlike years prior, Painesville Township residents had to remain in their vehicles to follow proper social distancing while trustees Chuck Hillier and Josh Pennock, administrator Mike Manary, and service director Bill Thompson directed traffic around cones set up in a circle where they hauled boxes and bags filled with documents to the Northcoast Shredding Services truck.
“This year we’ve asked the people to stay in their vehicles,” Hillier said. “Everybody has everything in the very back of the car so we can grab it. We believe it’s a safe setup.
Trustee Josh Pennock said over the years, the event has “helped create that sense of a community of the township.”
“We want to make sure that we are identified as Painesville Township, so we do something just for our community,” Pennock said.
The event, which is personally paid for by the three Painesville Township trustees, is a way to show the township residents the trustee’s appreciation for the community members, Hillier said.
“This is something that the trustees pay for personally out of our own checkbooks,” Hillier said. “We do it as a way of saying thank you to the community for allowing us to serve as their trustees. Not everybody has a shredder at home, and they take full advantage of it and we welcome that.”
Residents were permitted to bring up to three bags or boxes and had to show proof of Painesville Township residency.
