Porter facing weapon, marijuana charges
Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested early Nov. 15 and charged with improper handling of a firearm inside a motor vehicle, failure to control and misdemeanor marijuana possession in Milton Township.
Kevin Porter Jr. of the Cavaliers was arrested early in the morning of Nov. 15 and charged with improper handling of a firearm inside a motor vehicle, failure to control and misdemeanor marijuana possession after crashing his 2020 Mercedes on I-76 in Milton Township.
According to a report from the Ohio Highway Patrol with a Canfield (Mahoning County) dateline, troopers responded at 2:05 a.m. and discovered Porter standing outside his Mercedes after being involved in a rollover crash. Porter was interacting with first responders when the troopers arrived, according to the report.

ter was fatigued but not otherwise impaired. Investigating troopers discovered a loaded .45-caliber handgun and suspected marijuana in his vehicle.
Porter, 20 years old, was uninjured. He was cleared by EMS on the scene and
taken to the Mahoning County Jail.
“We are aware of the situation involving Kevin Porter Jr. and are in the process of gathering information,” the Cavaliers said in a statement. “We have spoken with Kevin and will continue to address this privately with him as the related process evolves.”
Porter was released on a $4,000 bond. He was cooperative throughout the process, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol report.
Porter’s arrest comes three days before the NBA draft. The Cavaliers’ only selection in the two-round Nov. 18 draft is the fifth pick in the first round.
Mock drafts have the Cavaliers selecting 6-foot-9 forward Obi Toppin from University of Dayton.
Porter, a 6-foot-4 small forward, was drafted by Milwaukee with the 30th pick of the 2019 draft and traded to the Cavaliers. He played in 50 games with three starts for the Cavs as a rookie and averaged 10 points, 2.2 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 23.2 minutes.
