Students from Mentor recognized by Ohio Connections Academy
Nour Fadel and Jacob Stevens of Mentor were recently named Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students of the Month for January in recognition of their academic achievements and leadership in and outside the classroom.
Nour, a sixth-grader at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by her teacher Mrs. Shebak in recognition of her positive attitude and desire to learn.
Jacob, a seventh-grader, was nominated by his teacher, Ms. Daugherty, for the hard work he has put into his schoolwork this year, according to a news release from the academy.
As Star Students, Nour and Jacob will be presented certificates recognizing their achievements and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s social media sites.
Each month during the school year OCA will recognize students in grades K through 12 who are excelling in the virtual classroom.
“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Nour and Jacob and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students is a leader in the classroom and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to learning – they truly deserve this recognition.”
Nour came to Ohio Connections Academy in 2017 as her parents wanted her to be in an academic setting that offers a structured program and a guided approach to learning.
According to her mother Suzan, OCA helps students learn with friends and teachers that support them along their journey.
Jacob enrolled in OCA at the beginning of this academic year because his parents wanted to make certain their son was receiving a quality educational experience during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ohio Connections Academy is a tuition free, fullyonline, public school that students in grades K-12 attend from home.
OCA delivers high-quality, personalized education for students that combines certified teachers, a proven curriculum, as well as technology tools, and community experiences— online and in person—to create a supportive environment for children who want an individualized approach to education.
