Crop comments: Not a ton of movement in this week’s Crop as Riverside moves up one spot ahead of Chagrin Falls. The 7-1 Beavers face a big test on Feb. 22 when they host Crop No. 2Brush in a Western Reserve Conference showdown. Riverside’s offense has been impressive of late, and in its last game against Geneva topped 100 points . ... Mentor returned to the court after a week off because of COVID-19 protocols and took care of Elyria on Jan. 20. The Cardinals host Brunswick and Benedictin­e this weekend. ... Richmond Heights and Lutheran East — teams good enough to make the Division IV and D-III state tournament­s, respective­ly — were set to play Jan. 20 but the game was postponed . ... The Third Chet Mason Invitation­al is Jan. 24 at Brush High School and features five games starting at 11 a.m. with the host Arcs playing Cleveland Central Catholic. Other games include Akron St. VincentSt. Mary vs. DeMatha (Md.) Catholic (1 p.m.), First Love (Pa.) Christian Academy vs. Ypsi (Mich.) Prep (3 p.m.), St. Edward vs. Shaker Heights (5 p.m.), and Richmond Heights vs. Warrensvil­le Heights (7 p.m.). Ypsi Prep features Emoni Bates, one of the nation’s top recruits in the class of 2022, and a player who could be the No. 1 overall pick of the NBA Draft the year he declares . ... University had a big weekend set with games vs. St. Edward and Chagrin Falls but both games have been postponed.
