Cavaliers fall to Bucks for second time in a row

Giannis Antetokoun­mpo had 24 points and 11 rebounds, Jrue Holiday scored 20 and the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Cavaliers for the second time in two days, 124-99, on Feb. 6.

D’Moi Hodge had 20 points as Cleveland State narrowly defeated Oakland, 80-78, on Feb. 6.

Tre Gomillion had 13 points and seven rebounds for Cleveland State (145, 14-2 Horizon League), which earned its fourth consecutiv­e victory. Deante Johnson added 12 points. Torrey Patton had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Daniel Oladapo had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Grizzlies (815, 8-8). Zion Young added 18 points. Micah Parrish had 14 points and seven rebounds.

JCU WOMEN WIN » Nicole Heffington (Mentor) scored 17 points, and John Carroll beat Baldwin Wallace, 6239, on Feb. 6 in University Heights. John Carroll improved to 6-0. Heffington has led the Blue Streaks in scoring all six games . ... Host Baldwin Wallace made a school-record 19 3-pointers, including 13 in the first half, on the way to a 90-78 victory over John Carroll in men’s basketball.

SPINKS DIES » Leon Spinks, who won Olympic gold and then shocked the boxing world by beating Muhammad Ali to win the heavyweigh­t title in only his eighth pro fight, has died. He was 67.

Spinks, who lived his later years in Las Vegas, died Feb. 5, according to a release from a public relations firm. He had been battling prostate and other cancers.

His wife, Brenda Glur Spinks, and a few close friends and other family members were by his side when he passed away.

RODGERS IS MVP » Packers quarterbac­k Aaron Rodgers earned his third Associated Press Most Valuable Player award, while Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald took his third top defensive player prize at NFL Honors.

Washington Football Team: quarterbac­k Alex Smith was the Comeback Player of the Year in one of the most inspiratio­nal stories of 2020, and edge rusher Chase Young got the top defensive rookie. Titans 2,000-yard rusher Derrick Henry won Offensive Player of the Year, and the offensive rookie honor went to Chargers quarterbac­k Justin Herbert.

SPIETH CARDS 61 » A day after saying he needed to be patient about results, Jordan Spieth shot a 10-under 61 on Saturday for a share of the lead in the Waste Management Phoenix Open. He then repeated himself. “What I’m looking forward to is just staying the course, trusting it,” Spieth said. “I have no expectatio­ns on the results tomorrow. I really don’t.”
