City working to fix computer network security incident
Council meeting canceled due to computer security issue
Euclid officials are working to resolve a major computer network security issue that occurred the week of Feb. 8 that has rendered some of the city administration’s systems inoperable.
Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail said that most city staff do not have access to their emails currently, but they have taken measures to secure the network, launched an investigation into the issue and engaged a cybersecurity forensics firm to assist them in remedying it.
“We are working to restore our operating systems to serve our residents with minimal disruptions,” she said. “We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience. Please know that most City of Euclid employees are currently not receiving emails, but are available through the phone, 216-289-2700.”
“As we are unable to provide public notice or create required documents, the City Council meeting and other public meetings scheduled for Tuesday (Feb. 16) have been cancelled.”
She added that they will continue to keep the city’s website updated as they work to resolve the issue.
Gail said they do not have a definitive timeline yet for when their systems will be operational again, but she said they were hoping by the end of the week.
“We understand the importance of maintaining the integrity of our systems and safeguarding information in our control,” Gail said. “As we work to restore our systems and complete the investigation, we will also look for opportunities to further enhance our security measures.”
