The program is part of the college’s Knowledge Exchange programming and is free and open to the public, according to a news release. Participants may access the presentation via Webex at http://bit.ly/LCCrecovery with the password “Knowledge.”

The presentation will highlight the growing popularity of the evidencebased program, SMART Recovery. The SMART approach gives the power of choice back to the individuals who are in desperate need of options within their treatment plan for their addictions, the release stated.

“Focusing on self-management and empowerment over their addictive and destructive behaviors, participants find SMART Recovery to be a welcome addition to their existing treatment programs or a source of primary motivation, to maintain an abstinent-oriented lifestyle balance,” the college stated in the release

The program will be presented by Michael Hooper, state outreach director for the Ohio SMART Recovery USA. The presentation will be followed by a questionand-answer session.

The Knowledge Exchange program at Lakeland Community College seeks to provide the community with timely, interesting subject matter. The free presentation topics range from acupuncture to the Zika virus.
