Gardening series starts March 13

Lake County Master Gardener Volunteers announced its 2021 Meet Us in the Garden series will start on March 13.

Each session will consist of a short presentation followed by interactive demonstrations and/ or discussions, according to a news release. When appropriate to the topic, small groups of participants will work with a Lake County Master Gardener Volunteer on a project.

As Ohio State University is continuing its ban on in-person meetings until June 30 at the earliest, these talks will once again be online via Zoom.

The March 13 presentation will start at 10 a.m. and is on “Nature’s Cues a.k.a. Phenology.”

Would you like an accurate way to predict when a particular insect is apt to invade your yard or know when your lilacs will bloom? Learn what growing degree-days are and, while not perfect, why they are a more reliable method of predicting plant and insect development than calendar days, the release stated.
