Lake County data details deaths

Lake County recently reached 300 novel coronaviru­s deaths and had 301 cumulative coronaviru­s deaths as of 12:01 a.m. Feb. 25, according to the Lake County General Health District.

The health district released its latest COVID-19 data report Feb. 26, which includes demographi­c informatio­n about those 301 deaths.

The age range of those who have died from COVID-19 in Lake County is 35 to 103, according to the Health District’s data report. The 35-year-old is the only Lake County resident in their 30s who has died from the virus.

More than half — 167 — who have died from the virus are 80 years old or older. That group has seen by far the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in the county. The average age of those who have died of the virus in Lake County is 80 years old.

The age group that has seen the second most deaths is the 70-79 group, which has 77 reported deaths. That is followed by 60-69 with 38 deaths, then 50-59 with 10 and 40-49 with 8.

According to the health district, 53 percent of those who have died in Lake County are male and 47 percent are female. Of those who have died, 52 percent had a known preexistin­g condition. The health district’s data also shows 41 percent of those who have died resided in congregate living.

Ninety percent of those who have died in Lake County were white (94 percent non-Hispanic/Latino; 2 percent Hispanic/Latino and 4 percent unknown), 7 percent were black and 1 percent were Asian.

Lake County saw its highest number of COVID-19 deaths in December. There were 116 that month. That came one month after the county saw its most total cases and hospitaliz­ations.

There were 6,220 cases in November and 133 hospitaliz­ations. December had the second highest number of cases (4,636) and hospitaliz­ations (121). December saw the highest number of ICU admissions with 17 (November was second with 13).

January had the third most cases, hospitaliz­ations, ICU admissions and deaths. There were 79 deaths in January. Seventyfou­r percent of Lake County’s deaths occurred November through January.

As of 12:01 a.m. Feb. 25, there were 18,222 cumulative cases in Lake County, according to the health district.

The average age of the person in the County who has contracted the virus is 44 years old and 53 percent are female and 46 are male (1 percent is unknown).
