For the record: The Pirates are in the district championship game for the fifth year in a row. That experience could be a big key in this game, as the Pirates are looking for their third trip to the regional tournament in four years. Salem plays relentless defense and rebounds well. They had a 3816 rebounding edge on Kenston. Salem went 1-1against the Canton South team that Perry just beat. Canton South beat Salem, 24-20, in the most recent meeting . ... Expect some serious defense to be played in this game on both ends.

Kampf’s pick: Perry

(6) GILMOUR AT (1) LAUREL

For the record: The Lancers are coming off a district semifinal in which freshman guard Nicci Finazzo led the team with 17points. The team’s two leading scorers are forwards Cooper Flowers and Lauryn Stover, both of whom were strapped with foul trouble against Beaumont. Keeping them out of foul trouble is a big key in this one. Guards Megan Duffy and Katie Puletti both played well in the district semi as well. Gilmour has decent depth and plays very good defense, both facets of which could come into play in this game . ... Laurel has won 12of its last 13games, the exception being a 40-37loss to Berlin Hiland in the regularseason finale. Junior Taylor Thierry was an All-Ohioan last year and will be again this year. Gilmour will need to be on point to pull the upset in this one.

Laurel

Kampf’s pick: (2) CORNERSTONE AT (1) LOUDONVILLE

What: Division IV district final When: 4 p.m., Feb. 27 Where: Loudonville High School, 421Campus Ave., Loudonville

Records: Cornerstone 12-11, Loudonville 24-0

On deck: Winner advances to the Division IV regional tournament to play Shadyside or Bishop Rosecrans at 5:30 p.m. March 4. Cornerstone’s path: Defeated Lake Center Christian, 42-37, def. Cuyahoga Heights, 40-32.

Loudonville’s path: Defeated Richmond Heights, 76-37, def. AOA 71-63, def. Dalton 78-74 (OT)

For the record: The Patriots want a third straight trip to the Division IV state tournament. Standing in their way is one of the top D-IV teams in Ohio. The Redbirds have outscored the opposition by an average score of 69.8- 42.3. Cornerstone has an advantage in strength of schedule, which could help them in this game. The Patriots and Redbirds have one common opponent — Andrews Osborne. Cornerstone beat AOA by 12 and Loudonville topped AOA by eight . ... Cornerstone is led by senior Riley Stopp, who is the program’s all-time leading scorer. Senior Aislyn Hurst also averages double figures. Junior Alex Rosson is one of the top 3-point shooters in the area. Cornerstone isn’t a particularly deep team, so foul trouble would be crippling to the Patriots . ... Loudonville senior Grace Vermilya had 53 points and 13 rebounds in the district semifinal win over Dalton. Corri Vermilya had 17. Defending them will be key for the Patriots.

Kampf’s pick: Loudonville
